Every fashion fanatic out there has been impatiently waiting for the ‘House of Gucci’ movie to be released, but my question is: is it living up to everyone’s expectations or did we desire more?

My personal opinion is: I expected more. The filming of the movie is great and the actors have done a very accurate job in impersonating their characters which definitely added to the quality of the movie. When putting together the cast, the movie directors did not leave anything up to imagination, some of the best actors in Hollywood are part of the Fashion movie. Through American-Italian actor Al Pancino that has already featured in films such as Scarface, the Godfather and the Irishman, Adam Driver famous through Oscar nominated movie ‘Marriage story’ as well as Starwars, Jared Leto, known as The Joker from ‘The Suicide Squad’ and Lady Gaga whom we all know because of her iconic 2010 songs Poker Face and Just Dance all contribute to the success of the movie.

The storyline itself is interesting and overall seen offers quite an accurate look into the history of Gucci. I do feel like it was rather flat, there was no real peak of the movie and at times it felt rather long. What is particularly weird to me is that at some instances I felt like the movie was too long for what was happening but at other times, things moved too fast. The most striking of these instances was how fast the relationship between Maurizio and Patrizia, the main characters of the movies, changed and deteriorated from one moment to another. It is hard for the audience to understand what exactly happened for it to change that drastically.

It is also interesting to me how Patrizia Regiani is portrayed so differently in the movie than she was in real life. in a weird and twisted way, the movie has somehow made it look like she was the hero, it did in a way downplay the severity of her actions. The manner in which the movie was directed and the screenplay written, the audience took pity upon Patrizia’s life after Maurizio Gucci fell in love with another woman. Although, what he did was horrible and cowardly, I do think that the movie emphasizes on the empathy we, as the viewers, feel towards her character, which almost makes us understand and rationalise the murder of Mister Gucci.

I personally feel as if the trailer of ‘House of Gucci’ has made it look more thrilling and exciting than it actually was. Overall, it was a good movie but as mentioned the storyline is very slow which some most like but others won’t.

As an enthusiast of styling, that was by far my favorite part of the movie, as I can't lie, the styling did not disappoint. The stylist of the movie was Janty Yates, who is a famous costume designer in the US and has been nominated for an Oscar in costume design for the movie ‘Gladiator’. Another collaboration with director Ridley Scott has created quite some buzz around the long awaited movie that portrays how power dynamics have shifted within the Gucci dynasty and the murder of Maurizio Gucci for which his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani was convited. Now back to the styling; the preparations have taken many virtual fittings and months of preparations and research for everything to be accurately portrayed as in a fashion related movie, the garments play a central role in communicating part of the story and setting the tone. To assemble the looks featured in ‘House of Gucci’, lots and lots of research had to be conducted and partnerships had to be established as part of the looks were costume house rentals and others were vintage from both Gucci’s archives as well as Lady Gaga’s very own closet. A crucial outfit was the red dress worn by Lady Gaga at the party at which Maurzio and her first meet, it had to be an exact representation of the piece worn by Miss Reggiani that left Maurizio Gucci’s eyes stuck to her for the whole evening. One of my personal favorites was the absolutely beautiful, figure hugging white lace ensemble that Lady Gaga wore to attend Uncle Aldo’s birthday, portrayed by Al Pacino. It is a beautiful dress combined with a bolero both inspired by an image of Lollobrigida and made of almost the exact white lace, this look was combined with a big black belt and big accessories, a characteristic of almost every look featured in the movie. The styling was definitely my favorite part of the movie, it was something I personally looked forward to and it did not disappoint.

So if you are a fashion fanatic it is worth a look but do not expect any thrilling story line with looks of peaks and action, if that is your cup of tea then maybe leave this movie aside.
