CLO3D is a fashion design software that is part of the progress of digitalisation of the fashion industry. The software has been developed subsequently after 15 year of research in order to offer the fashion industry a new possibility for their sampling and prototype production which is less polluting than the traditional way of doing things. We are all aware of the fact that the fashion industry has a major impact on our environment but sampling, prototypes and shipping alone account for 8% of the total greenhouse gas emissions of the world.

CLO3D has established a software that offers designers the chance for a virtual reproduction of their pieces and the possibility to try out a vast amount of graphic applications, colour combinations, materials and more, without any kind of waste. This is not only a crucial development in terms of sustainability as it saves all of the material waste and has the power to diminish greenhouse gas emissions by shifting from traditional sampling to digital sampling. Another benefit of the software is the immense reduction of the lead time, now instead of spending an average of 37 days on it, it will be reduced to a total of 27 hours. In addition to this, there is a much higher rate of sample adoption with CLO than without. Overall, the software increases the efficiency of the product development process considerably and reduces the amount of time that has to be invested into a single piece. With all of these benefits, CLO has the power to shift the fashion industry and make it more efficient and less wasteful in many aspects of the production process.

It has already been widely adapted by the fashion industry and CLO counts global clients including sports brand Adidas and conglomerate Inditex and it is safe to say that increased usage of the software dictates the future of fashion. Why shouldn’t we adapt digital tools into the design and development process? It saves crucial time, money and waste, some of the most important components of the industry. In addition to that, it enables teams to collaborate on a deeper level. Instead of simply handing over finished designs on paper, CLO3D offers them the opportunity to all work together on the file and make changes and adaptations along the way and since it is all digitalised, it takes up much less time than traditional sketching and sampling of the garments. It also enables the possibility to make the design of the piece faster as flaws can be pointed out and changed before the rest of the process is enabled.
So we should care about this development, it offers us a great possibility to increase the team spirit in the fashion industry, it makes us more cooperative and that is the smallest advantage of it. Through the adaptation of this new and forward thinking technology, it allows brands to be more transparent about their production process and makes the latter increasingly more sustainable. Sustainable production processes and environmentally responsible brands are in high demand by the consumers and are definitely beneficial to our planet.
I personally also think that CLO3D could be a way of emphasising on creativity, it offers designers the opportunity to let their imagination flow freely and try new and perhaps crazy designs, all of this without the burden of hurting anyone or being harmful to the planet. There is a great amount of tools that can be used by designers all over the world that have been designed by other designers to make the process fun and exciting again.
One could say, CLO3D is the breath of fresh air that the fashion industry was so impatiently waiting for.
